Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actress who is known for her role as the fierce attorney Teri Joseph in the Showtime show Soul Food. After her wedding to her husband, she was referred to for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since the age of five and was awarded the Best Actress award in an Maryland high-school competition. Alongside her involvement in the theater, she also worked with The Washington Ballet Company. The company awarded her a degree in Acting from New York University. Her debut role in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was a success and earned her immense respect. In the following years, she was a star in movies like "Boogie Nights Spark" as well as "Blue Streak". Soul Food was an immensely popular TV series. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She had already experienced a lot of travel and other cultures since a young age. She attended boarding school in London from seven to nine, after which her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her early childhood and adulthood. Contractor was an outstanding scholar in Toronto and trained to be an expert ballet dancer. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school that specializes in arts) she studied dance and theatre. Contractor began her acting career at 16 after completing a total of 10 years of dancing. After graduating high school, she accepted a full scholarship to the University of Toronto, where she pursued a masters in the field of theatre, and a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor was offered the lead role in Pericles following her one year stay in University. The audition was held for it during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. The play was well-received throughout the 92 productions that she performed in. She won the award in 2002 for the Best Production of the Year, as judged by Canadian Critics. Contractor was offered the opportunity to join Stratford's conservatory course, in which the top eight men and four females are selected for a 20-week crash course on classical theater which she eagerly took. Contractor's spot was assured in the next series of plays, and she landed Hermia's part for the role of Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream.
